The Turley family history was found in the allfamilycrests.com archives. Variants of the name Irish Turley include Torley, Curley, Curlee, Kerley and Terry. These names are derived from the Gaelic Mac Thoirdealbhaigh sept that was located in Counties Armagh and Down in Ulster Province.
A sept or clan is a collective term describing a group of persons whose immediate ancestors bore a common surname and inhabited the same territory. Irish septs and clans that are related often belong to even larger groups, sometimes called tribes.
This Gaelic name is ultimately derived from the forename Turlough, which is anglicized as Terry. The towns of Ballymacurley and Curleys Island are both located in County Roscommon where this widespread name is more often changed to Curley and Corley.
The Turley coat of arms came into existence centuries ago.
