Origin of the Name Morrow
The
Morrow family history was found in the allfamilycrests.com archives. The name Morrow can be of English and Irish origin. When of English origin it is usually a locality name meaning 'of the moor row', from a person who lived in a cottage on the moor. In this form it spread to Ireland and in particular into Ulster Province. In Ireland the name is an abbreviated form of McMurrough which is a very famous name in Irish histrory. It was Dermot McMurrough the King of Leinster who sought help from Henry II, an event which precipitated the Anglo-Norman invasion of 1172, led by Strongbow. His desendant Art McMurrough, 1357-1417, also King of Leinster , did much to remove the opprobrium, consequently glorifying the name by his continuous and successful resistance to the English invaders. The famous sept of McMurrough later split into a number of branches, giving the names Kavanagh, Kinsella, Murphy and Davis.
The Morrow coat of arms came into existence centuries ago. The process of creating coats of arms (also often called family crests) began in the eleventh century although a form of Proto-Heraldry may have existed in some countries prior to this. The new art of Heraldry made it possible for families and even individual family members to have their very own coat of arms, including all Morrow descendants.
