Origin of the Name Deal

The ancient history of the name Deal was found in the archives. The name Deal can be of both English and Irish origin. When from England the name is taken from the old word 'dale' meaning a valley. In Ireland the name this name has a number of variants including Deale, Daile and MacDeale. The name MacDeale is recorded in the ancient Hearth Money Rolls for County Antrim in the year 1664. Dahill, Deal and Dale are names derived from the Gaelic O'Dathail sept that was originally located in County Roscommon but which later became most associated with County Tipperary. The seventeenth century saw a further influx into Ulster Province of bearers of these widespread names from England and Scotland .
The Deal coat of arms came into existence centuries ago. The process of creating coats of arms (also often called family crests) began in the eleventh century although a form of Proto-Heraldry may have existed in some countries prior to this. The new art of Heraldry made it possible for families and even individual family members to have their very own coat of arms, including all Deal descendants.
