Origin of the Name Bagley
The origin of the name Bagley was found in the allfamilycrests.com archives. Variants of Bagley include Begly, Begley, McCready and McCreedy. This name in Irish is O'Beaglaoich and they were a Donegal sept located in the barony of Kilmacrenan where today the name is still found. The association with that part of the country is found in the placename Tulloghobegley, a parish near Kilmacrenan. The family there were not Bagley but were McCready, a name now spread in the three north east counties of Ulster. This name can also be spelled McCreedy. We find that the name Begley is now also very numerous in Munster, one of the principal locations being County Kerry, where the 1911 census records 37 families of the name there.
The Bagley coat of arms came into existence centuries ago. The process of creating coats of arms (also often called family crests) began in the eleventh century although a form of Proto-Heraldry may have existed in some countries prior to this.
