Origin of the Name Relehan
The origin of the name Relehan was found in the allfamilycrests.com archives. Variants of the name Relihan include O'Relihan, Relehan, O'Relehan, Relham and Relhan. The Irish name Relihan is derived from the O'Roileachain Gaelic sept that was originally located in County Antrim in the very north of the country but which later became more associated with Counties Kerry and Cork in the very south.
A sept or clan is a collective term describing a group of persons whose immediate ancestors bore a common surname and inhabited the same territory. Irish septs and clans that are related often belong to even larger groups, sometimes called tribes.
This name can also be a variant form of the names Relham and Relhan which are of English origin and were brought into Ulster Province by settlers from England and Scotland , especially during the seventeenth century.
