Origin of the Name Pruitt

include Prewett, Prewert and Pruet. This is a nickname meaning 'the proud', from a person who was of a haughty disposition. This name is of English descent and is found in many ancient manuscripts in that country. Examples of such are an Andrew Pruet, County Cambridgeshire, who was recorded in the 'Hundred Rolls', England , in the year 1273. A Thomas Pruwet of County Somerset was recorded in 'Kirby's Quest' in the reign of Edward III. A May Pruett was buried in Saint Dionis Backchurch, London, in the year 1680.
