Origin of the Name Mulready
The ancient history of the name Mulready was found in the allfamilycrests.com archives. The name Mulready is of Irish origin and is derived from the Gaelic O'Maolbhrighde sept that was located in County Roscommon in the north-western part of the midlands region. This sept name translates as 'devotee of Saint Brigid', she being one of the two patron Saints of Ireland , the other being Saint Patrick.
A sept or clan is a collective term describing a group of persons whose immediate ancestors bore a common surname and inhabited the same territory. Irish septs and clans that are related often belong to even larger groups, sometimes called tribes.
This sept were of the Ui Maine population group whose territory spread as far as County Galway . In modern times the name Mulready is still well represented in its original homeland Counties.
The Mulready coat of arms came into existence centuries ago. The process of creating coats of arms (also often called family crests) began in the eleventh century although a form of Proto-Heraldry may have existed in some countries prior to this.
