Origin of the Name Moylan
The origin of the name Moylan was found in the allfamilycrests.com archives. The name Moylan is usually of Irish origin and is derived form the Gaelic O'Maoileain sept that was located in Munster Province in the south of the country.
A sept or clan is a collective term describing a group of persons whose immediate ancestors bore a common surname and inhabited the same territory. Irish septs and clans that are related often belong to even larger groups, sometimes called tribes.
In modern times the name is mostly found in Counties Cork , Clare and Tipperary. Some bearers of the name Moylan may also be derived from the Gaelic O'Maolain sept that was located in County Galway and whose ancestors more often anglicized their native name as Mullin and Mullen.
The Moylan coat of arms came into existence centuries ago.
