Origin of the Name Hatch

Examples of such are a Geoffrey de la Hack, County Devonshire, who was recorded in the 'Testa de Neville, sive Liber Feodorum' in the reign of Henry III. A Henry Hak, County Lincolnshire, was recorded in the 'Hundred Rolls', in the year 1273. A William Hak, County Somerset, was recorded in 'Kirby's Quest', in the reign of Edward III.

When the overlords acquired land by either force or gifts from their rulers, they created charters of ownership for themselves and their vassals.
