When the overlords acquired lands by force or gifts from their rulers, they created charters of ownership for themselves and their vassals. In Ireland the name Gascoigne and its variants are usually of immigrant origin having arrived into Ulster Province during the seventeenth century. The variant Gaskin has existed since the thirteenth century. Gaskinstown is located in County Meath.
