include MacCreadie, MacCready and McCreedy. This name in Irish is MacRiada and the latter variants are the anglicized forms of this. They were a Donegal sept located in the barony of Raphoe where today the name is still found. A sept or clan is a collective term describing a group of persons whose immediate ancestors bore a common surname and inhabited the same territory. Irish septs and clans that are related often belong to even larger groups, sometimes called tribes.
In County Derry McCready is also sometimes used as an abbreviated form of the names MacConready and MacAready. In modern times the name McCready and its variants can be mostly found in the Counties of North-West Ulster as well as in County Dublin.
The MacCready coat of arms came into existence centuries ago.
